Jet Set to Jungle: Bringing the World Closer
The much-anticipated Tulum International Airport, officially designated as Aeropuerto Internacional de Tulum Felipe Carrillo Puerto (TQO), commenced operations on 1st December 2023, marking a pivotal moment in the connectivity of the Yucatan Peninsula's Riviera Maya region. This "Tulum airport opening date" has been a buzzword among travellers eager to explore the enchanting city of Tulum and its nearby attractions.
Nestled in Felipe Carrillo Puerto, the airport lies just 18 miles from the heart of Tulum. This strategic location significantly reduces the travel time from the previously used Cancun Airport, located 73 miles away. With this development, destinations such as Akumal, Bacalar, and the Tulum Mayan Ruins are now more accessible than ever.
Boasting a capacity to accommodate 5.5 million passengers annually, with plans for expansion to handle up to 40 million, the airport is a marvel of modern infrastructure. It features a spacious parking area, top-notch security, and sustainable energy solutions, including solar panels. Employment opportunities arising from the airport are a boon to the local economy, reinforcing the airport's significance.
Transportation from the airport includes official shuttle services, car rentals from leading companies, and ADO Bus public transport. However, those wondering, "Is there Uber in Tulum?" should note that rideshare services like Uber and Lyft are currently not available due to local regulations.
In line with the region's development, the Mayan Train Project, set to launch in December 2023, will further enhance travel convenience across Quintana Roo and neighboring states, knitting together key destinations including Cancun, Playa del Carmen, and more.
The air travel landscape is quickly evolving, with airlines like Delta, American Airlines, Spirit Airlines, and United Airlines launching routes from various U.S. cities to Tulum since April 2024. This expansion is poised to cement the Tulum International Airport (TQO) as a vital hub for tourism in the region.
Tulum witnessed a historic moment when the pilot of the inaugural American Airlines flight from Dallas to Tulum waved the Mexican flag out of the cockpit window in a unifying gesture.
In May 2024, Canadian airline, Air Canada, touched down in Tulum, marking the beginning of its Toronto and Montreal routes, operating 3 times a week.
WestJet, also announced new flights to Tulum starting 9 November 2024 from Toronto and Calgary.
It’s not only North America rushing to launch flightpaths to Tulum. German carrier, Lufthansa, will be the first European airline to service TQO. The airline plans to offer 2 weekly flights directly connecting Munich to Tulum starting December 2024.
Copa Airlines has also announced direct flights from Panama City to Tulum starting summer 2025.
Once you’ve landed, where do you stay? Well, that’s easy. Casa Tira, one of Tulum’s most prestigious villas, is only a 30-minute drive from the airport, offering an exquisite stay for those seeking top-tier accommodations.

Tulum's cultural scene is buzzing with excitement, with recent events such as Rufus Du Sol, Tomorrowland and the iconic Afterlife. These events attract a global audience, now more accessible thanks to the new airport, transforming Tulum into a hotspot for music and cultural festivals.
In conclusion, Tulum International Airport is not just a gateway to the Riviera Maya's treasures but also a catalyst for economic growth and cultural exchange, enhancing the travel experience to Mexico’s Caribbean coast.

Formula One Cancun 2025: Stay in Cancun or Tulum?
Exciting news for motorsport enthusiasts: Cancun is set to host a Formula One Grand Prix starting in 2025. This thrilling event promises to bring an unprecedented level of excitement and economic boom to the region, positioning Cancun as a premier destination for F1 fans. However, while Cancun will undoubtedly be buzzing with activity, Tulum offers a more serene and luxurious alternative for your stay, with Casa Tira being the perfect accommodation for groups attending the race.
Tulum Or Cancun?
Cancun: High Costs and Crowded Resorts
Cancun is well-known for its extensive all-inclusive resorts, which are invariably expensive and overcrowded, especially during major events like the F1 Grand Prix. The accommodations, while numerous, were built 30 to 50 years ago and offer less bang for your buck. Guests often find themselves confined to the hotel compounds, missing out on the authentic local experiences that define Mexico's undeniable charm.
Tulum: Luxury, Privacy, and Authenticity
In contrast, Tulum provides a unique blend of luxury and cultural richness. Staying at Casa Tira in Tulum offers several advantages:
New and Beautiful Surroundings
Tulum’s accommodations, like Casa Tira, are modern and nestled in stunning natural settings, offering a refreshing escape from the commercial hustle of Cancun.
Exclusive and Cozy
Casa Tira offers luxurious, private spaces perfect for families or groups. Unlike the generic hotel rooms in Cancun, Casa Tira provides a home-away-from-home feel with all the comforts and exclusivity you desire.
Casa Tira: Pole Position for F1 Fans
For those attending the Formula One event, Casa Tira stands out as a compelling accommodation option:
Spacious and Luxurious
Ideal for groups, Casa Tira offers expansive living areas, outdoor spaces, and all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay.
Authentic Experiences
Staying in Tulum allows you to explore the rich local culture, dine at exquisite restaurants, and enjoy pristine beaches and cenotes without the crowds.
Affordable Luxury
Despite the high level of luxury, staying at Casa Tira is far more cost-effective than booking multiple rooms in a high-end Cancun hotel.

Plan Your Stay With Casa Tira’s Concierge
While Cancun will undoubtedly be the center of excitement during the F1 Grand Prix, choosing to stay in Tulum offers a more relaxed and luxurious experience. Casa Tira’s concierge, can take care of your reservations, suggesting places to eat, things to see and do.
Enjoy the race during the day and retreat to the peaceful haven of Casa Tira in the evening. Book your stay and make your visit to the Formula One Grand Prix a memorable and unique experience.
By choosing Tulum and Casa Tira, you're opting for a vacation that balances the thrill of Formula One with the tranquility and luxury of one of Mexico's most beautiful and awe-inspiring destinations.
Cancun or Tulum for Families?
When planning a family vacation, the choice between Cancun and Tulum can significantly influence the type of experience you'll have. While both destinations offer the allure of stunning beaches and rich cultural experiences, they cater to distinctly different vacation styles. For families seeking a more intimate, luxurious, and authentic escape, Tulum, with its exclusive luxury villas like Casa Tira, often emerges as the superior choice over the often crowded and commercialized hotel zones of Cancun.
Cancun: The All-Inclusive Experience
Cancun is renowned for its all-inclusive resorts, which can be appealing for their convenience and seemingly endless amenities. These resorts often promise a hassle-free vacation where meals, activities, and entertainment are just steps from your hotel room. However, this convenience can come with downsides:
High Cost
While all-inclusive packages may seem economical at first glance, costs can add up quickly, especially with extras not covered under the standard all-inclusive plan.
Take the Hard Rock Cancun, for example, a double room goes for $650 USD per night, which is pricey when you add a few rooms for the whole family.
Crowds
Cancun's popularity also means dealing with crowds, which can detract from the relaxation and quality time many families crave on vacation.
Generic Experience
The commercialized environment of large resorts lack the authentic Mexican culture and unique experiences many travellers seek. Many travellers unfortunately experience a commodity holiday rather than a unique, curated experience.
Tulum: The Exclusive, Authentic Retreat
In contrast, Tulum offers a different approach to family vacations that focuses on privacy, exclusivity, and immersion in local culture. Casa Tira, a luxury villa in Tulum, exemplifies this approach by providing families with:
Privacy and Comfort
Unlike the standard hotel room, Casa Tira offers large open spaces where families can relax in a private setting. Each room is designed with luxury and comfort in mind, ensuring a cozy, home-away-from-home experience.
Cost-Effectiveness
Booking a villa like Casa Tira can often be more cost-effective for families. Without the need to pay for individual rooms as in a typical Cancun hotel, families can enjoy a more spacious accommodation at a significantly reduced overall cost.
Casa Tira has 7 spacious bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, if you booked 7 bedrooms at the Hard Rock Cancun, you would be spending $4,550 USD per night, and that’s during low season!
See how Casa Tira is up to 50% cheaper than accommodation in Cancun
Freedom to Explore
Tulum encourages exploration beyond Casa Tira. Families can venture into the local town, visit ancient ruins, and enjoy natural cenotes without the confines of a resort compound. This freedom enhances the vacation experience by allowing families to create a personalized itinerary that reflects their interests. Even better, families can take it easy and let Casa Tira’s complimentary concierge service make recommendations and reservations with the best Tulum has to offer.
Cultural Richness
Tulum remains deeply connected to its Mayan heritage and ecological beauty. Staying at Casa Tira offers families the opportunity to engage with local culture authentically, from artisan markets to eco-tours, providing a more enriching experience than the often generic resort activities in Cancun.
The Verdict
For families looking to make the most of their vacation by blending relaxation with cultural exploration, Tulum, and specifically Casa Tira, offers a compelling alternative to Cancun's bustling resort scene.
The luxurious, exclusive vibe of Casa Tira provides a sanctuary where families can enjoy quality time together, engage more deeply with their surroundings, and create lasting memories without the limitations of a commercial hotel environment.
Choosing between Cancun and Tulum ultimately depends on what your family values most in a vacation. If a packaged, all-in-one resort experience appeals to you, Cancun might be the right choice.
However, if you're seeking a getaway that offers the freedom to reconnect, luxury, and a touch of adventure, Tulum's Casa Tira is hard to beat.

The Secret to Saving: Midweek Stays
The logic is simple yet impactful. Traditionally, hotels and resorts see a surge in demand over the weekend, driving up prices from Friday through Sunday. The Rise of Intimate Weddings
Why Small is the New Big in Changing Times
In an ever-evolving world, where economic uncertainties like looming recessions and inflationary pressures are becoming the norm, the way we celebrate life's milestones is also undergoing a transformation. The grand ballroom affairs are making way for more intimate, heartfelt celebrations, especially when it comes to weddings.
Economic Realities Driving the Trend
The modern couple is savvy. They're aware of the global economic landscape and are making choices that are both financially prudent and emotionally fulfilling. With the shadows of economic downturns looming large, there's a conscious move towards value-driven decisions. Intimate weddings, 30 people or less, are not just a trend; they're a reflection of a society that's prioritizing genuine experiences over extravagance.
The Allure of Intimate Weddings

Tulum: The Next El Dorado for Investors
Mexico is one of the most prized destinations in the world. Its year-round temperate climate, turquoise waters, vibrant culture, and heavenly cuisine have made it a renowned vacation spot. Before the pandemic, the country welcomed more than 8 million tourists each month. Whilst all vacation spots have suffered from the travel restrictions imposed during the health crisis, one Mexican coastal town has recovered faster than others: Tulum. This article explains why and what it means for investors.
Located at the heart of the Mexican Caribbean shore, Tulum has grown from a hidden gem to a global hotspot for travellers in search of exclusive experiences. Two years ago, Forbes qualified it as “one of the best cities to live in Mexico”. At the time, it received more than 2 million visitors each year. Tulum is built around an ancient Mayan walled city, which makes it a culturally rich location and a unique area of the Riviera Maya. Tranquil white-sand beaches, crystal-clear waters, and tropical vegetation add to its historical charm. However, it is Tulum’s greater ecological awareness and spiritual sense which differentiate it from other luxurious destinations of Mexico.
Tulum’s dawn originates in its small bucolic seashore, connecting the Mayan ruins on one end and the Sian Ka’an nature reserve on the other. “Tulum’s isolated and breathtakingly beautiful environment also makes it the perfect place for those craving a deeper connection with themselves, others, and nature.” wrote Condé Nast Traveller contributor Julia Chaplin in her book Tulum Gypset. The town has become a hub for avant-gardistes and trend-setters pursuing alternative approaches to life – whether they are glamorous, closer to nature, or tech-savvy. As a result, wellness activities have become mainstream in Tulum. Yoga, breathwork, massages, cacao dance, meditation, women’s workshops, and temazcal ceremonies are some of the activities organised each week at IKAL, a bohemian beach club on the shore of Tulum.
When most countries restricted travel and social activities, many globetrotters chose to halt in Tulum. “If I have to be stuck somewhere, I would rather be stuck in paradise!” said Sophie, a recent European expat in Tulum. Given the town’s open architecture, it did not suffer from pandemic-induced restrictions, but thrived instead. “Everything’s outdoors, everyone follows protocols; it’s just a different way of dealing with it,” said a real estate agent at Engel & Völkers. Tulum has seen its hotel zone expand, featuring many new high-end venues such as IT, Bonbonniere, and Bagatelle – also present in other top destinations worldwide. In the past ten years, Tulum’s population has grown by over 65%. Within the state of Quintana Roo, it has the second highest population growth rate. In 2021, Tulum’s nearest airport Cancun became the second most visited airport in the world. The government has started building a high speed rail link from Cancun to Tulum and Tulum International Airport, both set to open in 2023.
What does this mean for investors? Tulum is “a buyer’s market” according to the Financial Times. The local office of Sotheby’s International Realty commented that they sold more homes in 2020 compared to 2019, and that Tulum is indeed “the current hotspot of activity”. Many go-getters have thus invested in Tulum’s booming real estate, which promises to turn into a profitable business due to its constant flow of tourists. In comparison to pre-pandemic times, tourists now visit Tulum not only during the holiday season, but all year round. In addition, a growing community of expats and digital nomads has found ground in Tulum, which has increased local demand for goods and services. Thanks to a generous visa policy, it has become particularly easy to start a new life in this Caribbean paradise.
The Forbes Council Members recently recommended Tulum within their “top tips for buying your first investment property”, as its vacation rentals offer juridic certainty and warrantied investment. Property prices range from $252 to $552 per square foot, which is twice cheaper than in nearby town Playa del Carmen. In Tulum, you may find one-bedroom apartments starting from $125,000, which is three times cheaper than the median property price in Miami Beach. Furthermore, local real estate agents estimate the average annual return on investment (ROI) in Tulum to be between 8 and 15%. In comparison, the average 10-year stock market return is 9.2%. Buying property in Tulum therefore not only guarantees access to a wonderful Caribbean escape, but also a safe and profitable investment. For this reason, Tulum reminds us of the legendary lost city of El Dorado, where precious stones and gold were found in abundance by explorers.
With US and Mexican inflation rates growing at a steady pace, Tulum promises to also see its property prices appreciate in the next few years. In the US, the annual inflation rate reached 7.5% in January of 2022, the highest since February of 1982. Mexico’s inflation rate, which follows US trends due to the high interdependence between the two countries, hit a 20-year high this Winter. According to Bloomberg, real estate is becoming “a hedge against roaring inflation” as investors seeking alternatives from stocks and bonds turn to the housing market. Indeed, in the long term, inflation and housing prices tend to move in the same direction according to Colin Lizieri, economist and professor at the University of Cambridge. “People invest in [real estate] for the same reason that they invest in cryptocurrencies. They’re worried about the current economic system and they want options.” said Benjamin Miller, CEO of real estate investment platform Fundrise.
In conclusion, Tulum has become the next hotspot for investors. Tulum’s tourism has grown during the pandemic and is set to continue expanding. Tulum features all the qualities of a tropical paradise with the added touch of spiritual and ecological awareness, giving it a unique charm, relentlessly inspiring global dreamers to discover what makes this magical town so special. In the face of increasing inflation, the unbeatable prices and guaranteed ROI of properties make Tulum any investor’s dream.
